Blending Homework

The children have now learned six sounds – s,a,t,i,p,n.

This week we will begin our work on blending the sounds together to make CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words using these sounds.

Blending is a really important part of learning phonics and extra practice at home is needed.

In the homework folders you will find;

1. A Handwriting practice copy. Please only complete the writing practice page for the letters S and A.

2. Word box 1, words 1-5. Please practice reading these each night.

3. Tricky word of the week – I. Practice this each night.

4. Sound, word, picture match sheet – practice the sound, action and song for each. You can cut these out and practice matching the correct word, sound and picture together. You can also play matching games.

5. My blending Mat – You can use the letters from the sound, word, picture page to make words on the mat and sound them out.
- First sound out the letters, s-a-t, pointing at each one as you say the sound.

- Then say the whole word as you blend all of the sounds together.

Here is a video of some words we are learning to blend together.

Can you blend and read these words??

'a, a, ants on my arm!'

Today we learned all about the sound... Our rhyme for this sound goes like this - 'Curve around, up like a helicopter, bump, back down and kick.' We made sure to check our classroom for things beginning with the 'a' sound so you could have a look around and see if you can spot anything beginning with 'a' outside school! Here is the song for this sound. We have also been practicing our tricky word, 'the', and trying to find it hiding in different places around the classroom!

Weekly homework 19th of February

Hi Everyone,  I hope you all had a lovely mid term break! We had a student teacher, Conor, start with us today and he will be teaching the class for four weeks. The children are all very excited! Feel free to come to me if you have any questions etc as I will still be in the classroom during this period.  Here is the homework for the week:  1. Tricky Words Revision of the tricky words (3 from the old list and 3 from the new list) ' the ', ' all ', ' no ', ' old ', ' many ' and ' should '.  2: Reading The children have been given new readers in their folders.  Once your child gets a new book, please fill in the date they received the book and sign the sheet if you feel your child has completed the book to the best of their ability.  When completing this at home, please focus on fluency, pacing, good expression and a good understanding of the book they are reading.  As always, if you have any questions about this please ...

A huge thank you and happy summer!

Hey everyone,  I just want to say thank you so much for such a wonderful two years. The children are a credit to all the parents and each child should be very proud of themselves because they have come so far since starting in Junior Infants two years ago.  They are all so unique and full of personality and have given me so much happiness and laughs every day. I'll miss them hugely but I know they will love the new challenges and exciting changes in First Class.  Always feel free to pop into me whenever you're passing and good luck in the future! Jessica ☺
